The give and take of networking

Chantal

Networking meetings are  a great place to get advice and help from other people. It’s also a great place to give help and share your expertise and experience… but only if someone else asks for your help!

Just because someone tells you they’re struggling to motivate their staff, that doesn’t mean you (if you’re an HR consultant or someone similar!) can tell them what they should do to keep their staff on side.

If someone tells you they spend too much time doing their accounts (and you’re an accountant) you shouldn’t just tell them a better way of doing it.

By all means, if someone asks for your help and advice, then give it freely and generously. If someone you meet at a networking meeting just wants to have a moan, you’ll do more for them just to listen and be sympathetic, than if you try to fix them!
